Law Firm Must Pay $282,000 in Legal Malpractice Settlement Row

A law firm must pay most of a $300,000 settlement in a legal malpractice lawsuit after a Mississippi appeals court ruled that the agreement outlining it was valid and enforceable.

Gerald Watkins hired Turner & Associates PLLC to file a personal injury action after he fell off the roof of a local home while attempting to repair it. Watkins, who died during the litigation, later found out that the lawsuit hadn’t been filed and that the statute of limitations for those claims had already expired, so he sued the firm.
