Law Firm Can Proceed With ‘Smear’ Claims Against Would-Be Client

A Pennsylvania law firm can move forward with an effort to rein in a former potential client who allegedly targeted the firm and its managing partner during “more than a decade of acrimony” between them.

A district court’s 2020 ruling dismissing the Weiser Law Firm’s vexatious litigant order request against defendant Michael Hartleib fails because specific jurisdiction exists that shows emails sent by him are addressed to Robert B. Weiser “and speak directly to him” in Pennsylvania, according to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in a Thursday opinion.
