Landfill Agrees to Pay $50,000 to Settle Water Pollution Suit

The owners of a New Hampshire landfill will pay $50,000 and complete a restoration project at the site in Bethlehem to settle a lawsuit over the alleged release of pollutants into a nearby river, according to a filing in a federal court in the state.

Casella Waste Systems Inc. and its subsidiary, North Country Environmental Services Inc., were accused of releasing pollutants into the Ammonoosuc River without a permit. The pollution violated the Clean Water Act, according to the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire.
