LA Trial Court Boosts Court Reporter Bonuses, Adds Internship

Los Angeles trial court leaders will launch a paid six-month internship for court reporting students and new licensees, bolstering its efforts to lure officials tasked with creating verbatim records to work in the county amid persistent vacancies.

The Thursday announcement comes two months after the county said it would allow staff to electronically record more types of hearings when needed. The September decision prompted criticism from reporters, who said the technology produces inferior transcripts and that the court hadn’t done enough to lure staff away from the highly lucrative private court reporting market.
