LA Restaurant Group Sues Former Counsel for Embezzlement

A restaurant group operating a number of upscale Los Angeles Mexican restaurants sued its former general counsel, accusing him of engaging in fraud and embezzlement.

The lawsuit filed in federal court in Nevada said Matthew Syken, who was hired as general counsel for the Madera Group in 2019, used the restaurant group’s corporate credit card on family vacations, luxury products, treatments at an anti-aging facility, and to pay for a divorce attorney.

It’s the latest in what appears to be a number of back-and-forth lawsuits involving Syken as well as other investors and the restaurant group.
