A federal judge has so far held off on compelling the mayor of Los Angeles from testifying in his downtown L.A. courtroom, as he weighs whether the city breached its 2022 settlement agreement to provide shelter for 60% of homeless residents by 2027.
L.A. Mayor Karen Bass said at a federal court hearing in March that she knew the city’s homelessness services were “broken” and she agreed with “a lot” of a scathing audit into the system. But the question of whether she’ll have to testify about that remains open on the third day of an evidentiary hearing.
