LA County Fire Sued by Christian Lifeguard Over Pride Flag Duty

An evangelical Christian employee says the Los Angeles County Fire Department revoked an exemption relieving him of responsibility for flying the Progress Pride Flag during Pride Month and retaliated against him for complaining.

The captain in the department’s lifeguard division says the issues arose after the county board of supervisors in March 2023 “passed a resolution requiring that all county-operated facilities fly the Progress Pride Flag during the month of June.” But the requirement didn’t apply to all of the department’s 24 lifeguard stations and his faith-based objections to being required to fly the flag were initially accommodated by moving ...
