L.A. Sheriff’s Deputy Trevor Kirk Denied Bail Pending Appeal

A Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy, whose felony excessive force conviction was lowered to a misdemeanor, won’t be released on bail pending appeal.

Although US District Judge Stephen V. Wilson said he doesn’t believe Trevor Kirk will flee, Kirk’s appeal didn’t raise a “substantial question” that would merit his release, Wilson of the Central District of California said in a Monday hearing.

“I don’t think there are any issues that are debatable, in terms of the jury question,” Wilson said.
