Kellogg’s Says Morningstar Farms ‘Veggie’ Labels Not Deceptive

Kellogg Sales Co. urged a federal court in California to dismiss a false-ad suit over its Morningstar Farms’ products, saying that when used to describe a meat-substitute food like “veggie” burgers, the word “veggie” means “the absence of meat, not the presence of vegetables.”

Angela Kennard alleges that Kellogg’s misleads consumers because the main non-water ingredient in products like Morningstar Farms’ “veggie burgers,” “veggie dogs,” and “veggie chik’n” is grain or oil.

According to Kennard, the word “veggie” leads consumers to believe the products contain mostly or exclusively vegetables.
