Karen Read Loses Murder Retrial Appeal Arguing Double Jeopardy

Karen Read must face another trial on charges that she murdered her police officer boyfriend and fled the scene, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court held Tuesday in her high-profile appeal.

Read’s initial jury told the court repeatedly that it couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict in July 2024 after deliberating for five days. Some jurors later came forward and claimed they were unanimous that she was not guilty on two of three counts against her.
