Kansas Parent’s First Amendment Claim Probed by Appeals Court

A federal appeals court Thursday questioned the basis for a First Amendment claim in a lawsuit filed by a Kansas parent who says she was retaliated against for raising concerns that some schools were violating President Donald Trump’s executive orders.

Carrie Schmidt alleged in a lawsuit against Gardner Edgerton Unified School District No. 231 officials that she was banned from school property after she took pictures of a classroom that displayed posters for the Gay Straight Alliance Club to the popular “Libs of TikTok” X account, which posted a photo of the classroom door that included the teacher’s last name. ...
