Jury Verdict Against Kim Davis Over Gay Marriage Licenses Upheld

The Sixth Circuit on Thursday upheld a jury verdict against a former Kentucky county clerk who gained notoriety for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses after the US Supreme Court legalized it in 2015.

The three-judge panel rejected all of Kim Davis’ arguments to try to set aside a judgment that leaves her on the hook for more than $350,000. Chief among them was that she was immune from the claims she faced because she didn’t violate a right created by the US Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges.
