Jury Says Gaming Executive Guilty of Bribing Illinois Lawmakers

An Illinois gaming operator was found guilty Thursday on all seven counts of an indictment accusing him of fraud, bribing two state politicians, and lying about it to the FBI.

Assistant US Attorneys Sean J.B. Franzblau and Christine M. O’Neill convinced a jury of seven women and five men that James T. Weiss illegally paid former state Rep. Luis Arroyo and former state Sen. Terry Link, both Democrats, up to $2,500 a month in exchange for promoting legislation to keep sweepstakes gaming machines unregulated by state law.
