A Chicago jury deadlocked Thursday in the federal bribery trial of Illinois state Sen. Emil Jones III (D), saying on their fourth day of deliberations they couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict on any counts.
US District Judge Andrea Wood declared a mistrial over the defense’s objections.
Individual questioning of jurors at sidebar Thursday afternoon revealed “they did not believe further deliberations would help, and that everybody had a firm view of the evidence,” Wood said from the bench.
