May 31, 2024, 9:13 PM UTC

An $8 million settlement to resolve a class action over Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP’s data breach that impacted roughly 461,100 people is going to receive an early nod from a federal district court.

Judge Susan Illston is taking the consolidated class’ unopposed motion for preliminary approval of the proposed settlement under consideration. She indicated she will give the agreement its first green light at a virtual hearing in the US District Court for the Northern District of California on Friday.

“In general, my preliminary view is to approve what you’ve suggested,” Illston said at the hearing.
