Judge in Staley Case Baffled by FCA’s Casual Barclays Call

A judge said it was “baffling” that the UK financial regulator failed to take notes on a key call with Barclays Plc Chairman Nigel Higgins to discuss then-Chief Executive Officer Jes Staley’s links to Jeffrey Epstein.

Judge Timothy Herrington said he could not understand why the Financial Conduct Authority hadn’t kept a record of the August 2019 call between Jonathan Davidson, head of retail supervision at the time, and Higgins. The conversation has become a focal point in Staley’s appeal against his ban from the finance industry, which is concluding this week in a London court.
