Judge Waves Off SCOTUS Stays in Third-Country Deportation Case

The US Supreme Court’s emergency stays of orders blocking the Trump administration from sending noncitizens to so-called third countries isn’t a factor for the federal judge weighing the case on the merits.

During a Tuesday hearing, Judge Brian Murphy of the US District Court of the District of Massachusetts rejected arguments advanced by the Department of Justice, claiming the plaintiffs’ Supreme Court track record should give the court pause in considering a request for judgment in the case.
