John Hancock Won’t Face Class Action Suit Over Ransomware Attack

John Hancock Life Insurance Co. dodged a lawsuit over claims it didn’t safeguard its customers’ personal information in connection with a ransomware attack against a third-party vendor after the plaintiff voluntarily dropped the case.

Vivian Lindley, on behalf of a proposed class of more than six million, permanently ended her complaint against the insurer, according to a notice filed Jan. 30 with the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Though the parties were close to settling last year, according to the docket, it’s unclear of the dismissal was the result of a deal.
