Jay Clayton Wins Approval to Stay as Manhattan US Attorney (2)

Interim Manhattan US Attorney Jay Clayton avoided a protracted fight over his temporary appointment when a group of judges approved him to remain in the post pending confirmation as a permanent prosecutor by the US Senate.

Clayton was appointed by President Donald Trump on April 21 and his temporary term expires within 120 days under federal law. Judges in the Southern District of New York decided to let Clayton stay in his the post until he or someone else appointed by the president wins Senate confirmation, according to a statement from the court’s district executive.
