Japanese Mizuho Bank Escapes Race Bias Suit From Fired US VP (2)

Mizuho Bank Ltd. beat a suit Wednesday brought by a former US-based vice president accusing the bank of discrimination against non-Japanese employees and retaliation against him for requesting disability-related accommodations.

David Kurtanidze failed to prove that he was twice denied promotions or that he was excluded from certain meetings at the third-largest Japanese bank because he isn’t Japanese, Judge Paul A. Engelmayer said, granting Mizuho’s motion for summary judgment in full.

“The admissible direct and circumstantial evidence thus does not support, at all, that Kurtanidze, in any manner, was discriminated against based on his non-Japanese race and national origin,” said ...
