J&J Settles Biometric Suit Over At-Home Skin-Care Assessments

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. has reached a settlement of a proposed class action alleging it collected the face scans of consumers in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

The parties reached an agreement in principle to settle the lawsuit during an Aug. 5 mediation session, and will seek preliminary approval of the settlement upon execution of the agreement, they informed the court. That notice comes five months after Judge Michael A. Shipp of the US District Court for the District of New Jersey denied J&J’s motion to dismiss the suit.
