Iowa Pharmacy Accused of Misusing PPP Funds, Mishandling Opioids

US attorneys say an Iowa pharmacy owner committed fraud by improperly using funds received under a federal Covid-19 pandemic relief program and unlawfully managed controlled substances like oxycodone.

Rashid Pharmacy PLC and owner Joseph G. Rashid violated the False Claims Act by misusing loans the US Small Business Administration issued under the Paycheck Protection Program, government attorneys told the US District Court for the Southern District Iowa in a Thursday complaint. They also violated the Controlled Substances Act by not keeping accurate records about disposal of drugs such as opioid pills.
