Iowa Can’t Restrict School Programs Over Gender Identity (1)

Iowa must not impose restrictions on school programs that relate to gender identity and sexual orientation because they violate students’ First Amendment rights, a district court ruled.

This means that students in grades six and below must be allowed to join gender sexuality alliances and other student groups relating to gender identity or sexual orientation, and that school districts must be permitted to advertise GSAs to all students, said Judge Stephen H. Locher of the US District Court for the Southern District of Iowa on Thursday.
