Iowa Book-Removal Law Revived as Court Spurns Publishers’ Claims

Iowa can enforce a 2023 law allowing K-12 schools to remove books with sexual and LGTBQ content from their libraries after a federal appeals court Monday overturned a lower court order blocking the measure.

Acoalition of book publishers and authors, including Penguin Random House LLC, HarperCollins Publishers LLC, and Simon & Schuster LLC, failed to show they were likely to succeed on the merits of their First Amendment challenge to Senate File 496, the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit said.
