Insurer Claims ChatGPT Goaded Woman to Try to Reopen Suit

An insurance company claims in a new lawsuit that OpenAI Foundation, through its popular GenAI chatbot ChatGPT, led a woman to breach a settlement agreement by encouraging her to reopen a lawsuit that had been dismissed.

The suit, filed in US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleges that the foundation, and OpenAI Group PBC, engaged in tortious interference with contract, abuse of process, and the unlicensed practice of law because of Graciela Dela Torre’s attempts to reopen her case against Nippon Life Insurance Company of America, based on advice from ChatGPT.
