Instacart will pay $14,000 to an Ohio-based shopper to individually settle a federal and state wage suit over her alleged misclassification as an independent contractor rather than employee, according to federal court filings.
Shanda Bolin, who worked as an Instacart shopper in Athens, Ohio, will receive approximately $6,500 of the total. Her counsel will receive $5,339 in attorneys’ fees and $2,161 in costs.
Bolin collectively sued Instacart, which is legally registered as Maplebear Inc., in November 2020 under the Fair Labor Standards Act and Ohio law.
