Inmate Given Rare Release to Care for Wife Hurt in Car Accident

A prisoner whose wife was traumatically injured and whose son was fatally struck in a car accident was released in order to care for his partner, with a ruling by a Virginia federal court.

Selwyn Clarke, who was serving a 70-month sentence for conspiracy to distribute cocaine, filed a pro se motion for compassionate release, due to his family’s inability to continue to care for his wife after the accident that occurred in November 2022.
