Indiana Locale Must Let Transgender Student Use Boys’ Bathroom

An Indiana school district must let a transgender student use any boys’ restroom in its purview after a federal court granted a permanent injunction barring its restrictions.

The city of Martinsville discriminated against the student, treating him differently based on his transgender identity, Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, of the US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, said Tuesday. Pratt granted summary judgment in favor of the student, identified in court papers as A.C., on his Title IX and equal protection claims, but said a trier of fact would have to decide to what extent damages apply.
