Indiana Abortion Assistance Law Divides Court Panel at Argument

A federal appellate panel on Tuesday appeared sharply divided on how to handle an Indiana law that prohibits giving minors information that helps them get an abortion without parental consent.

The law bars anyone from knowingly helping a minor evade the consent requirements, which means it regulates conduct, not speech, Indiana Deputy Solicitor General Jenna Lorence said Tuesday, arguing the court should throw out an injunction barring enforcement of the law.
