Independent Living Systems Data Breach Settlement Gets First Nod

Independent Living Systems, a Florida-based long-term health-care provider, will pay $14 million to settle a data breach class action filed on behalf of 3.9 million people after a federal judge gave preliminary approval to the deal.

Class members can ask for up to $5,000 in out-of-pocket reimbursement and will get pro rata payments, according to the agreement Judge Kathleen M. Williams preliminarily approved Monday. California class members will get double pro rata shares “in recognition of the potential value of the California statutory claims alleged,” according to documents filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. ...
