Immigration Rights Backers Sue Over Trump’s Halt on Legal Aid

Advocates say President Donald Trump’s pause on funding of legal services to undocumented immigrants and new access restrictions at detention facilities is unlawful, according to a new lawsuit Friday.

The nine groups allege that Trump’s (R) “Protecting the American People Against Invasion” executive order violates their First Amendment rights as well as the Administrative Procedures Act, according to their complaint in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. The order asks the US Attorney General and Secretary of Homeland Security to review and audit applicable programs providing services to “removable or illegal aliens.”
