A new Illinois law regulating federal immigration officers unconstitutionally exposes officers to litigation and punitive damages, the Justice Department said Monday in a lawsuit against Gov.
The US Department of Justice says Illinois Public Act 104-0440, signed by Pritzker on Dec. 9, illegally interferes with federal immigration enforcement by creating state-level restrictions on federal officers, in violation of the US Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, according to a complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
