Illinois Coal Mines Agree to Pay $1.2 Million to End Wage Suit

Knight Hawk Coal LLC and ICG Illinois Inc. have agreed to pay more than $1.2 million to settle a proposed class action alleging the mine operators failed to pay employees for overtime work.

The companies and plaintiff Toby Dye also seek to certify a class of all current and former hourly employees who worked more than 40 hours in a workweek and engaged in underground mining from Oct. 14, 2021, to Oct. 24, 2024, according to a joint motion for preliminary approval of the settlement filed Monday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
