Icelandic Provisions Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging it duped consumers about the origin of its Skyr-branded yogurt, as a federal court in California said consumers wouldn’t think the New York-produced dairy item is made in Iceland.
The front of the Skyr label says “Traditional Icelandic Skyr” and “Icelandic Provisions,” and features an image of a countryside with a snow-covered backdrop.
On the back, the label says Skyr is “Proudly made in Batavia, NY with domestic and imported ingredients.”
Rivka Steinberg alleged the words and images deceive consumers about Skyr’s place of origin, violating California consumer protection laws.
