A federal appellate court paused an injunction on federal immigration agents’ use of force against Chicago-area protesters while the US Department of Justice pursues its appeal.
The Seventh Circuit on Wednesday granted the Trump administration’s request to stay the preliminary injunction, which sets guardrails around agents’ use of weapons including tear gas and pepper spray and requires the use of body-worn cameras.
Judges Michael Brennan, Frank Easterbrook and Michael Scudder Jr. found the injunction is “overbroad” and “impermissibly” infringes on separation of powers.
