The California Supreme Court on Wednesday ended a fight about a voter-approved initiative that increased tolls on the seven state-run bridges over San Francisco Bay by $3 in part to support climate change projects.
Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, which brought the property tax-limiting Proposition 13 to the world, argues the toll boost is really a tax because proceeds will be used for other transportation means and thus needs a two-thirds majority. Regional Measure 3 passed in June 2018 with 57% of the vote.
