The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Hooters of America LLC for alleged race discrimination, saying in a federal lawsuit that managers at its Greensboro, N.C., location failed to rehire a proposed class of Black former employees after Covid-related layoffs.
Hooters laid off approximately 43 “Hooters Girls” from its Greensboro restaurant on March 20, 2020, then rehired 13 of those employees in mid-May, according to the EEOC’s complaint. Only one of those 13 rehired employees was Black or had dark skin-tone, even though before the layoffs, approximately 51% of the Greensboro location’s “Hooters Girls” were in those categories, the complaint said. ...
