Homeless Camp Clash With City Draws US Supreme Court Review

The U.S. Supreme Court will consider how far cities can go to prevent homeless people from sleeping in public places, agreeing to hear an appeal from an Oregon town that makes it a crime to use a blanket, pillow or cardboard shelter.

Acting at a time of record US homelessness, the justices said they will review a federal appeals ruling that said the city of Grants Pass is violating the ban on cruel and unusual punishment in the Constitution’s Eighth Amendment.
