Hill’s Dog Food $12.5 Million Settlement Gets Initial OK

A $12.5 million class settlement resolving claims over recalled Hill’s specialty dog food won a Kansas federal court’s early approval.

Pet owners alleged multiple varieties of Hill’s Prescription Diet and Science Diet canned dog food were defective and deceptively marketed as healthful because they contained dangerously high levels of vitamin D, posing serious health risks to dogs.

Judge Julie A. Robinson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas granted preliminary approval Tuesday, and set a final fairness hearing via Zoom for July 27, according to a docket entry.
