Hernia Mesh Defendants Win Two Verdicts; More Trials Coming

Atrium Medical Corp.’s verdict in a hernia mesh case earlier this month makes defendants two-for-two in recent trials by patients alleging that the products, used during hernia repair surgery, caused various complications.

A federal court jury in Chicago found for Atrium in the first trial involving one of the company’s hernia mesh products.

That October verdict followed an Ohio federal court jury’s September verdict clearing C.R. Bard Inc. and Davol Inc. of liability in the first test trial in multidistrict litigation involving their hernia mesh products. The companies are now owned by Becton Dickinson & Co.
