Heritage Valley Health System Inc. used tracking software on its website to disclose patients’ sensitive health information to Facebook without their consent in violation of state and federal law, a new proposed federal class action said.
Erika Redd alleged that Heritage Valley, which operates in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, installed the Facebook pixel on its patient portal and additional Facebook tracking technology on its servers, resulting in the disclosure to the social media giant of information about patients’ medical conditions, test results, treatments, appointments with providers, and other similar information.
