HelloFresh Sued in California Over Automatic Meal Kit Renewals

Grocery subscription service HelloFresh automatically charges consumers without required disclosures required under California law, a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday said.

Grocery Delivery E-Services USA Inc., which does business as HelloFresh, offers meal delivery programs with pre-portioned ingredients and recipes. Consumers signing up for food delivery subscriptions are automatically enrolled in renewals that charge them from week-to-week for the meal kits in violation of California’s Automatic Renewal Law, the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said.
