Health-care technology company HealthEC LLC failed to protect the personal information of nearly 4.5 million people that was exposed in a July data breach, a proposed federal class action said.
Bree Marano alleged that HealthEC failed to implement adequate data-security measures, properly monitor its network for intrusions, or provide adequate and timely notice of the breach to victims.
Information exposed in the incident included names, medical-treatment information, health-insurance information, billing and claims information, and Social Security numbers, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey.
