Hawaii Laws Keeping Guns From 18-to-21 Year-Olds Upheld for Now

Hawaii laws prohibiting 18-to-21-year-olds from purchasing a gun can be enforced amid a constitutional challenge to the measures, a federal court ruled Monday.

The coalition of gun dealers and individuals suing to block the laws haven’t shown they’re likely to prevail, the US District Court for the District of Hawaii said, denying the coalition’s motion for a preliminary injunction.

While the challenged statutes aren’t identical to historical precursors, they’re “‘analogous enough’ to conclude that Plaintiffs have not demonstrated they are likely to succeed on their constitutional challenge,” Judge Jill A. Otake wrote.
