Harley-Davidson Motor Co. Group LLC customers failed to convince a federal appeals court to revive their claims that the company improperly limits its warranty-coverage when non-company parts are installed in motorcycles.
In a split ruling, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit affirmed the dismissal of the litigation Friday.
The customers alleged that Harley-Davidson’s owner’s manual violates the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act by conditioning warranty coverage on the exclusive use of Harley-Davidson parts. The manual says that using parts or service procedures other than Harley-Davidson approved ones can void the limited warranty.
