Hanesbrands to Cover Out-of-Pocket Losses in Data Breach Deal

Hanesbrands Inc. would reimburse victims of a May 2022 data breach for their out-of pocket losses and allow them a choice of additional relief under a proposed deal filed in federal court.

Nicole Toussaint and Veronica Roman alleged that Hanesbrands, a seller of clothing under the Hanes, Champion, and Bonds brands, failed to implement adequate data-security procedures or encrypt sensitive data before the incident, leading to the exposure of the information of around 75,000 people.

They filed a motion for preliminary approval of the settlement Tuesday in the US District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
