Hamburger Helper Permitted to Promise ‘Real Cheese’ on Box

The company behind Hamburger Helper’s packaging beat a customer’s claims that its boxes advertise a deceptive level of “real cheese,” in violation of California’s consumer protection laws.

Customer Keyonna Daniels failed to show that the box would mislead a reasonable consumer, Magistrate Judge Sean C. Riordan said Thursday for the US District Court for the Eastern District of California, dismissing the proposed class action without leave to amend.

Daniels purchased Hamburger Helper products, including its Cheeseburger Macaroni product, in boxes adorned with the phrase “Made with Real Cheese” and a picture of a “large bowl of cheesy pasta,” Riordan said. ...
