Gun Dealers Fail in Challenge to Suicide Prevention Pamphlet (1)

A Maryland county’s ordinance requiring gun sellers to distribute literature related to gun safety and suicide prevention doesn’t violate the First Amendment, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.

Four Maryland firearms dealers and gun rights organization Maryland Shall Issue Inc. argued the ordinance violated the gun sellers’ constitutional right not to speak on those topics.

Anne Arundel County enacted the ordinance in the wake of a declaration by the county that suicide was a public health crisis. A task force report found two-thirds of gun deaths between 2013 and 2017 in the county were deaths by suicide. To comply with ...
