Court Rejects Georgia Voting Law Opponents’ Bid for Injunction

A federal trial court denied a bid for a preliminary injunction that would freeze five provisions of Georgia’s voter law, finding the federal government, the NAACP and other groups challenging the measure are unlikely to succeed on the merits of their racial discrimination claims.

Injunctive relief isn’t warranted because the plaintiffs haven’t shown that the provisions of S.B. 202 have a disparate impact on Black voters, Judge Jean-Paul Boulee of the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia said.
