Grenfell Tower Fire Suit Against Arconic, Whirlpool Moves to UK

Arconic Inc. and Whirlpool Corp. won a bid to dismiss a product liability and wrongful death lawsuit arising from 245 survivors and bereaved of the 2017 Grenfell Tower apartment fire, after the Third Circuit said Friday that the case belongs in a United Kingdom court.

Pennsylvania-based Arconic manufactured the aluminum cladding for Grenfell’s exterior. The materials, bound together by a layer of highly flammable polyethylene, were allegedly the primary reason why the fire, which was caused by a Whirlpool fridge-freezer electrical fault, spread so quickly through the tower’s exterior facade.
